My name is John and I am called to bring the good news back to my people. I am 28 years old and of Akka ethniic background from Myanmar. I just graduated from Chinese Bible Seminary, located in the Golden Triangle area of Northern Thailand. Because I originally come from Myanmar, I can speak fluently in Putonghua, Akka, Lahu, Thai and Burmese.
I am working in the Footprints Childrens Home for abandoned children. Along with other workers, I bring wholistic care for the children: physically, spiritually, socially, and spiritually. I also like to teach some fun, artistic skills like dancing.
From the project manager . . . We have been blessed with an Gospel open door in Myanmar, reaching out the tribal people living in hard places, remote mountains of Myanmar. Some tribes have never heard of Gospel. In Myanmar, overall speaking, 90 percent of the population lives near or below the poverty line, making less than US$1.00 per day or on average, US$200.00 per year. The region we work is very poor even by Myanmar standard. Infant mortality rate is no less than 50 percent.
SPECIAL NOTE: This is a renewal of a 2008 project. Originally it was proposed for just 2008, but due to the wonderful results in 2009, it now has been re-inserted for 2010. The amount for 2008 was $1,000 and the amount for 2010 is $1,560. |
