San Andres is a poor and remote community bordering the southwestern tip of the municipality of Naujan, in Mindoro Island. About 98 per cent of the people are rice farmers. San Andres is a community with immense potential. It is a home to adventurous and industrious people who migrated from different provinces and settled in this rich land. They cleared the forest and transformed the plains into profitable rice farms. But because of the series of floods that plagued them for several years, the community is already losing hope.
Due to its remoteness, the community is often neglected. No electricity and the road is so bad. Moreover, the barangay is sandwiched by two of the biggest rivers this northern part of the province that recently had made them a victim of a series of flooding. When this happens they become isolated from “civilization”. They can go to town only by risking life and limb riding a rowboat to cross the raging rivers. Their crops are destroyed; their hopes shattered. The worst affected by these circumstances are the children.
The VOC goal for a successful Education Program is: The family, church, and leaders are meeting the mental, spiritual, social and physical needs of their children and the children are developing as God intends. You can see more details in the attached project design document.
What is unique about this program is that we are using a group child and sponsor strategy. This makes administration more simple ,and most importantly, helps us to focus more on ministry. Please pray for us and about your church or organization sponsoring a group of children! May God richly bless you!!
