Canaan Farmers School is widely seen as the key inspiration that caused the "Miracle of Korea" over the last 50 years. From being one of the poorest countries of the world to the 13th largest eoncomy. Canaan has partnered with Yonsei University to develop emerging national leaders with the Global Agricultural Leadership Development Program. The purpose of the program is to develop young leaders from Africa, Asia and Latin America with the mindset and skills to eradicate poverty.
Twenty to thirty students come to the Canaan farm for each 3 month semester. The fundamental philosophy of the program is based on seek first the Kingdom of God and the key to eradicate poverty is a mindset change, not resources. Students experience a lifestyle of early morning exercise, reflection, work, discipline, and study. in addition to the learning about the Canaan mindset and lifestyle, students also learn about modern Korean history, the New Village Movement, leadership, project management, organic farming, sustainable environment, governance, healthy living, and economic development. A scholarship of $6,500 provides all costs: airfare, tuition, accommodations, and a $500 seed grant to use in their community project.
